The baiji is a freshwater dolphin from Yangtze River. The baiji population declined drastically in the 1950's with the use of the river for fishing, transportation, and hydroelectricity. Baiji are functionally extinct and are thought to be the first dolphin species driven to extinction due to the impact of humans.
